Authentic Self Rant

Every time I read advice about how to be a great <insert whatever here> they say to be your authentic self.  

• Be a great leader – be your authentic self.  
• Find core readers – be your authentic self.
• Cure halitosis – be your authentic self.

You get the idea.

My issue is that they don’t really mean be who you are, they mean show the bits of yourself that re-enforces whatever image you are trying to portray.

Fine.

I know I’m an introvert, pun and fantasy-loving, nerd.  I never figured out the image thing, so in an effort to be my authentic self I’m going to crack a joke.
